1. Pianist for Chapel Service Time: 2-2:45 p.m., one Friday per month. We love piano players! At a small-group Chapel Service led by our chaplain in our First Floor Dining Room (for a group of about 15), you will play four traditional hymns. We also encourage you to stay after the service and visit with the senior residents of the home, if desired. 2. Pianist for Worship Service Time: 10-11 a.m., one Sunday per month. Same type of thing as #1, just a different setting! At a Worship Service led by our chaplain (for a group of 70 - 100) in our Third Floor Auditorium, you will play four traditional hymns. You are encouraged to stay after the service and visit with the senior residents of the home, if desired. 3. Chapel Service Assistant Time: 1:30-3 p.m. on Fridays. At a small group Chapel Service led by our chaplain (for a group of about 15), you will help senior residents by bringing them down the hallway to the service, and being a companion for them during the service. You are encouraged to help them with their hymn books or sound system receivers when required, and to visit with them after the service. 4. Worship Service Assistant Time: 9:30-11:15 a.m. on Sundays. At a Worship Service led by our chaplain (for a group of 70 - 100), you will help senior residents by bringing them up the elevator to the service, and being a companion for them during the service. You are encouraged to help them with their hymn books or sound system receivers when required, and to visit with them after the service. 5. Coffee Club Assistant Time: 9:15-11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays. Join us for a cup of coffee! You will assist the Recreation Therapy staff in facilitating a recreation program for the senior residents of our Temperance/Munroe Neighborhood. Residents of this neighborhood have been diagnosed with a dementia, usually Alzheimer Disease. You will also assist the residents by bringing them down the hallway to the front entrance. You will learn how to help the Recreation Therapy staff by securing wheelchair and van safety belts. Most of all, you will provide companionship for the residents and help them have fun! 6. Recreation Outing Assistant Time: Weekday morning or afternoon, once per week. You will assist senior residents of our Temperance/Munroe Neighborhoods by bringing them down the hallway to the Munroe Exit. Residents of this neighborhood have been diagnosed with a dementia, usually Alzheimer Disease. You will learn how to help the Recreation Therapy staff member by securing wheelchair and van safety belts. Most of all, you will provide companionship for the residents and help them have fun! 7. Recreation Therapy Program Assistant Time: 3:15-4:30 p.m. on Fridays. You will assist the Recreation Therapy staff member in facilitating a recreation program for our senior residents. You will help bring residents down the hallway to the program, encouraging them to have fun and participate! 8. Recreation Therapy Program Assistant Time: mornings and/or afternoons, every 2nd Saturday & Sunday. The volunteer will assist the Recreation Therapy staff member in facilitating a Recreation Therapy program for elderly residents, many of whom use a wheelchair. The volunteer will help bring residents down the hallway to the program, providing much-needed companionship and encouraging them to have fun and participate! Typical programs on weekends have included Outings, Walks, and Bingos. 9. Aquatherapy Assistant Time: 1:25-3:30 p.m. on Thursdays. You will assist Physiotherapy and Recreation Therapy staff in our Therapy Pool, walking with senior residents in the pool and accompanying them during mild exercises. The pool is 1.1 metres deep, so swimming ability is not required. Helping the residents change into dry clothes after exiting the pool is always appreciated. 10. Exercise Group Assistant Time: 10:15-11:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. You will help senior residents by bringing them to the Exercise Group, and assisting the Recreation Therapy staff member who leads the group by distributing exercise equipment and encouraging residents to participate. You are strongly encouraged to visit with the residents before or after the Exercise Group. If more time is desired, you could help residents who need assistance with their noon meals. 11. Walking Program Assistant Time: 9:30-11:30 a.m. on weekdays, once or twice per week. You will help senior residents as they walk short distances, with assistance from Physiotherapy staff. You are strongly encouraged to visit with the residents before or after the program. If more time is required, you could help residents who need assistance with their noon meals. 12. Dining Room Assistant Time: any meal period any day. Breakfast: 8:15-9:15 a.m., Lunch: 12-1 p.m.; Dinner: 5-6:00 p.m. You will help senior residents who need assistance with their meals, by feeding them. Nursing staff are on hand in the dining room to offer help when needed. You are strongly encouraged to visit with the residents before or after the meal.
