LutherCare Communities Update: SEIU West Group Homes Job Action

For many months LutherCare Communities Group Homes (“LutherCare”) and SEIU-West have
been negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement impacting 6 of LutherCare’s 11 Group
Homes. The parties reached an impasse in bargaining when they were not able to come to an
agreement on the issues of wages, medical care leave and a paid holiday for National Day for
Truth and Reconciliation. All other items have been agreed upon.

We believe we have offered a fair package including wage increases, increased medical care
leave, a signing bonus and inclusion of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a paid
holiday for SEIU-West members.

LutherCare remains available and willing to bargain. We have reached out to SEIU-West on
several occasions regarding LutherCare’s most recent proposal. We have not received a
response.

On April 22, 2024, SEIU-West served a strike notice to LutherCare. The strike notice advised
transportation services would not be provided to any residents of LutherCare’s Group Homes
except for the limited circumstances of appointments with health care providers or to seek
medical attention from a health care provider.

Our residents’ safety and security is our number one priority. Contingency plans are in place to
ensure our residents continue to receive high quality of care without disruption, including
transportation to all planned activities.

We again invite SEIU-West to return to the bargaining table to conclude a collective bargaining
agreement.

We appreciate the ongoing support of the community.
